Weight Loss
Gaining fat weight as we grow older
is more a matter of life style than age. Unless the overweight individual
has genetic and or glandular problems their condition is primarily
caused by too little activity and too much of the wrong foods. Even
if genetic and/or glandular conditions exist your body still must
respond to certain physiological laws developed through human evolution.
(See article at left)
Highly restrictive (under 2k calories/day) diets
without a change in eating habits and lifestyle only tell you body
to respond as if there is a famine. (i.e. burn muscle, conserve fat)
You must trick your body into believing that there is ample food available
(eat often). Select foods of low glycemic index (stay away from sugar
and refined carbohydrates), eat ample protein.
Exercise, Exercise,
Exercise ! This doesn't mean that you have to do aerobic exercise
all day. Just stay active to keep your metabolism up. Walking is great.
Just chewing gum raises metabolism 7% (and maybe keeps snacks away).
One hour of heavy aerobics may burn 300 to 500 calories. 10 lbs of
new/replaced muscle burns 600 calories every day, FOREVER!
Declining metabolism is caused by muscle loss,
caused by reduced physical activity, NOT AGE. Reduced metabolism without
reduced eating creates fat. Get the muscle back ! Get more ! The fat
will go away if you then eat right.
